Did you know that maintaining a CBD routine requires a good deal of diligence? Not only when it comes to selecting the cleanest and highest-quality halal products, but also when it comes to complying with local and federal laws.
That being said, we recognize that knowing what to do when traveling with your favorite hemp products can be tricky. In fact, laws pertaining to hemp can change so frequently that it is important to have the most up-to-date information possible.
Traveling Across State Lines in a Car or Other On-Ground Vehicles
First, let’s talk about anyone planning on going on a road trip of some kind. Is it okay to cross state lines with cannabidiol (CBD)? Well, yes and no. Unfortunately, the answer is a bit more complicated than you may think.
Ultimately, hemp is a federally legal substance, which means that under federal law (2018 Farm Bill), you can possess CBD products of any kind. Here’s the catch: as long as they contain no more than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Now, we get into state laws. In Iowa, cannabidiol remains fully illegal, and is the only state with this restriction. In all other 49 states, cannabidiol and other hemp-based products are legal to buy, sell, and possess.
Still, some states have banned specific types of hemp-based products, such as vapes. So, before traveling to a new state, simply make sure that it is legal to carry that specific CBD product.
Flying with CBD
Technically, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) fully permits the possession of hemp/CBD products as long as they comply with federal law. We also understand the desire to travel with cannabidiol due to the stressful nature of flying in general.
If you’re going to be traveling with CBD through airport security, there are some tips to follow to make sure that it goes as smoothly as possible. Hemp and marijuana both have many similar characteristics, which is why you want to be as clear as possible about your hemp products with the TSA. Hemp can sometimes get mistaken for marijuana due its similarities in appearance so it’s important that they know what you’re carrying is, in fact, hemp.
Tip #1: Keep Products in Their Original Packaging
If you keep your products in their original packaging, TSA agents will clearly see that you’re carrying hemp and not marijuana. The labeling will indicate as such.
Tip #2: Bring Documentation
It certainly doesn’t hurt to bring lab reports that come with a product. This is to verify that the product fully complies with the law. Even better, bring a doctor’s note that confirms that your doctor recommends you take CBD, just to be on the extra-safe side.
Tip: All of our products have a scannable QR code, which redirects to the corresponding lab results highlighting contents and zero THC
Tip #3: Be Friendly and Considerate
The more friendly and considerate you are to TSA agents, the less reason they will have to suspect that you’re breaking the law.
Tip #4: Comply with General Guidelines
Remember that the TSA has general guidelines and restrictions when it comes to how you may pack products, and what you can bring. Do not bring any liquid CBD products that exceed 3.4 fluid ounces.
Major Tip: It is illegal to vape or smoke any hemp-based products on a plane or in an airport. There are designated areas for that.
If traveling to a new country, you will need to follow our tips above. Also, it’s best to check and make sure that the country of destination, and the specific region you’ll be staying in, permit possession of CBD-infused products.
Some countries and regions have banned hemp products altogether. So, failing to comply with this could lead to some pretty serious penalties depending on your destination. Naturally, you want to avoid breaking the law in a foreign area, as this can become extremely problematic.
Advice: It is easy to search CBD laws according to different areas around the world.
