Does CBD Show Up On A Drug Test?

So, does CBD show up on a drug test? Anyone out there who might be new to the CBD products available at HalalCBD might still have some confusion as to the qualities of the hemp plant in terms of their legality, psychoactive nature, and potential to interfere with a drug test.

It is natural to have these concerns because of how strongly associated the hemp plant is with marijuana, a psychoactive drug that is illegal under federal law.  Both hemp and marijuana come from the cannabis genus, which is why people can get confused.

However, at the end of the day, hemp is a federally legal and non-psychoactive plant that cannot get you high.  After all, we wouldn’t be able to sell our halal hemp products around the country if it were illegal.  Even high doses of CBD cannot get you high as the amount of THC that naturally occurs in hemp is simply too low.

Still, even if it cannot get you high, would taking CBD show up on a drug test?  In short, no.  But, to offer more clarity so that you can let go of your concerns once and for all, we will give you more insight into this talked-about subject.

Does CBD show up on a drug test?

DOES CBD SHOW UP ON A DRUG TEST?

First, let’s talk about CBD vs. THC.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the dominant compound in the hemp plant.  CBD itself is not psychoactive, and the compound is not even tested for in drug tests because it’s legal and non-intoxicating, and also because testing for CBD in a person’s urine is very expensive and no employer wants to bother with the cost.  Products made with a pure CBD will therefore not have any effect on a drug test whatsoever.

CBD is not the only compound in the hemp plant.  There are hundreds of individual compounds, including various cannabinoids and terpenes.  Also, products with a full spectrum hemp extract contain a trace amount of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – 0.3%.  THC is what urine tests are trying to pick up.  To be more specific, it is not the THC itself that is tested for, but an enzyme released when we consume THC, known as THC-COOH, which is a clear indicator that a person has used THC.

Still, the trace amount of THC in hemp is generally far too low to yield a positive result.  It happens only in incredibly rare circumstances and is generally not a big cause for concern.

At the same time, it is completely understandable that there are people out there who want to refrain from THC altogether to bring that risk down to zero.  In fact, many of our customers avoid THC for personal reasons.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF DRUG TESTS ADMINISTERED FOR IDENTIFYING THC

Before we discuss the risk of failing a drug test after taking a product from HalalCBD, we need to break down the different types of testing used by employers to identify THC

URINE TESTS

About 90% of employers rely on urine tests when testing their employees for usage of THC and other illegal or intoxicating substances.  Urine tests are simply the most reliable, cost-effective, and insightful, as they can indicate long-term and short-term use.  Again, urine tests are looking for THC-COOH, not the actual THC compound.

SALIVA TESTS

Saliva tests are not really used by employers, because they can only indicate THC usage within the last 10 hours.  This means that a person can simply refrain from using marijuana for one day and pass the test.

HAIR TESTS

Hair tests can show THC usage for up to 90 days but are not capable of showing whether or not a person has used THC within the last handful of days. Why? Because it can take a while for THC levels to appear in a hair strand sample.  These tests are also extremely expensive, relatively unreliable, and can take over a month to return results to the employer.  So, they aren’t really used either.

PERSPIRATION TESTS

Perspiration tests are reserved for medical testing environments due to their invasive and impractical nature.  These tests require that a person leave an adhesive patch on the skin for two weeks, during which trace amounts of compounds can appear on the patch.

BLOOD TESTS

This one is pretty much straightforward.  Employers do not use blood tests to identify THC, as THC is only in the blood while a person is actively high on marijuana.

HALALCBD THC-FREE HEMP EXTRACT: A TOTALLY RISK-FREE OPTION FOR CBD ENTHUSIASTS

All of that brings us to broad spectrum hemp extract, which is what we use at HalalCBD when formulating all of our products.  Broad spectrum hemp extract is a type of hemp-based extract containing every cannabinoid, terpene, and other desirable compounds that naturally occurs in the hemp plant, with the exception of THC, which has been 100% isolated and discarded.

The key thing to remember is that in general, CBD products do not put you at risk of failing a drug test. HalalCBD products, especially, are THC-free, which means that the risk of failing a drug trust due to the presence of THC in the body is zero.
